26 | National Design Triennial: Inside Design
Now
This is perhaps the most important show in
design. Just opened on 04.22, this exhibition represents some of the
most cutting edge designs now. This ranges from Graphic Design, Fashion
Design, Industrial Design, Set Design and other important design fields.
Some of the names include, Paula Scher, Geoff McFetridge, Mick Mills,
Green Lady/ HunterGatherer, Blu Dot, The Hoefler Type Foundry, Nest magazine,
Isaac Mizrahi, and more. Geoff McFetridge and Mike Milles was featured
in the NY Times on 04.24 (registration req'd). A 2001 Parsons graduate
Paige
Stahl
has
a piece in the show as
well.
One of my favorite piece was 2D/3D by Blu Dot. Basically a flat piece
of metal with cutouts you can fold to make a letter holder, another that
makes magazine rack, etc. Make sure to go see this important design
exhibition at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum.

22 | I do not hate Flash
If you have gone through the website and through
some of the websites I have done you’ll probably see that I do not use
flash. It’s not that I hate Flash, I am just not an excellent
programmer who can use Flash correctly.
I do hate most websites that
make use of Flash. I REALLY hate the cheesy intros and aimless
animated buttons. Though every once in a while I come upon a
website that
uses Flash correctly.
Check out the Hugo Boss
Prize site. The navigation is clear and information
is easy to find and navigate to. The only improvement may be to use
a pixel font so the information is not too blurred.

| The tipping point
I am getting ready for my second read
of this book. “How little things can make a big difference” best describes
the content of the book. “The Tipping Point is that magic moment
when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips,
and spreads like wildfire.” One of the examples describe how Hush
Puppies became a fashion epidemic. Another talks about how by fixing
broken windows in certain neighborhood lowers the crime rate. One
of the most interesting books I’ve read this year.

Make
it bigger
I couldn't figure out why this book is sold out at most of the bookstores
in New York. I was going to get it for a friend birthday but I found both
Strands
and Barnes and Noble was sold out of the book (Union Square area). I’ve finally
finished reading it. Her work is very inspiring and her writing is interesting
too. It’s a pretty fresh perspective for me.

12 | Matthew Barney @ guggenheim NYC
Ever think you are crazy? You are
not! Ever think you are weird? You are not! Ever think
you are a genius? You are
DEFINITELY NOT! Matthew Barney is a crazy man, weird nut and a genius
in all rolled in to one body and mind. Go see the exhibition,
sit in for a screening of one of the films. The Cremaster cycle
is a five part epic with photographs, sculptures that takes over
the entire Guggenheim. I couldn't really sit through Cremaster
2 it was just a bit much but you can see the
genius in Barney even if you sit in on just half an hour of the
film. Bring your student ID, fifteen dollars for a two day pass|

09 | Living inside the grid @ New Museum
One of the first museum exhibitions taking on
the idea of the grid. If contemporary art and urban culture is your
interest this is an important exhibition to go see.

02 | The Senior Show
Welcome to the new Liquidrice website. While developing,
organizing and uniting ideas for this site has been in the works since
Nov 2002. A beta version of the
site launched Thanksgiving weekend. Though not whole lot changed from the Thanksgiving
edition, the navigation has improved and this section has been added. One
reason, the site has been on hold is because I wanted to launch it
in same time as the
Parsons Communication Design BFA Exhibition. The exhibition is on view please
come see it if you have time.
